Tambeach

Tambeach is played in a court on sand.  For singles matches, the court measures 24m x 7.5m, while for doubles it is 24m x 11m.  In either case, the net is 2.1m high.  Scoring is to 12 points, for the first two games and to 5 points in case a deciding game is required.

Usually played in the summer months, Tambeach is easy to pick up and fun to play.  It requires good control of the ball and good fitness levels for covering the large court and diving in the sand to reach that unreachable ball!

The game originated in Ragusa, Sicily, with the first tournament being held there in the 1970s.
It gradually spread to neighbouring areas, and in 1996, the F.I.P.T (the Italian Tamburello Federation – Federazione Italiana Palla Tamburello) celebrated the centennial anniversary of Tamburello, organising a tournament which included Tamburello Classic, Indoor Tamburello and Tambeach. It was here that tambeach gained official recognition and the rules and regulations of the game were officially established.

It was also at this point that the name TamBeach was invented (by Dirk Ertel who began promoting the game in Germany through Tamburello Deutschland – www.tamburello.com).

While Tambeach is mainly played in Sicily and Germany, it is gradually coming to be recognised in other European countries:  a Tambeach tournament was held for the first time in Barcelona, Catalonia in September 2007.
